A little bit about me and my journey to birthwork…
My name is Valerie Pelletier, and while I haven’t always been a birth worker, birth has always had a way of shaping me. My early career was spent in hotels and restaurants, working as a chef—until pregnancy put me on preventative leave. “Not working” wasn’t something I was used to, so I threw myself into pregnancy like it was my new full-time job. I read everything I could, watched documentaries, attended panel discussions, and soaked up every bit of knowledge. I felt fearless, ready to birth.
But birth had its own lessons to teach me. That day and night were the most transformative of my life, unraveling everything I thought I knew about myself and piecing me back together as someone new. It was humbling, powerful, and life-changing. I knew then that one day, I had to be part of the birthing world.
Years passed, and after my second child, birth once again shook me to my core. As I adjusted to life with two children, that calling to birth work resurfaced stronger than ever. It was time to take the leap. I trained with MotherWit Doula Care, completed a Breastfeeding Essentials course, and studied with Gena Kirby in her insightful Rebozo for Birth workshop.
Since 2019, I have had the privilege of supporting over one hundred families through birth and early parenthood, and my passion for this work only continues to grow.
When I’m not out “doing the doula,” you can find me at the ballet studio, in the kitchen cooking for my family, browsing a bookstore, or scrolling on my phone, hoping the laundry will fold itself.
